Welcome to KCVYS
The Kent Council for Voluntary Youth Services is the only umbrella organisation in the County to which all the countywide voluntary youth organisations belong.
The primary role of KCVYS is to act as an advocate - on behalf of youth work in the voluntary sector and also on behalf of our member organisations. We aim to advocate with local authorities (i.e. Kent County Council and Medway Council), other key decision-makers and opinion informers (i.e. Members of Parliament, media), our members and the public.
Our secondary role is as the hub of a growing network - to ensure that effective communication takes place between the KCVYS Executive Committee and member organisations on current issues within voluntary youth work. We also use this communication to collect the views of members to substantiate and give credence to our advocacy.
KCVYS, a voluntary organisation works in close partnership with Kent Youth Service and Medway Youth Service, both of whom offer financial and non-financial support.

KCVYS Proposal
for a new organisation for young people in Kent Over the last year representative from Kent Youth (KY) and the Kent Council for Voluntary Youth Services (KCVYS) have met to explore the possibility of joining forces to create a new organisation to support organisations for young people in Kent. The new organisation would have a new name and would continue to provide the existing services and activities, but in a more effective and efficient manner. The new organisation would represent the various voluntary youth organisations at a strategic level as well as offer practical assistance and support. The initial discussions have been very productive and initial plans favourably received by both Boards of trustees. The tangible benefits are significant during a period where financial pressures are considerable, both in the public and voluntary sectors across the county. The member organisations are going to be consulted as the next step in the process and if the idea is supported, it is hoped that plans to get the new organisation established will be drawn up as soon as possible. Background
information Kent youth is an independent charity, formed in 1936, providing essential support services to over 220 diverse range of young people’s groups, clubs, projects and organisations across Kent, Medway, Bromley and Bexley. Kent youth is part of two national youth networks; Clubs for Young People and UK Youth. Locally it works in partnership with Kent Youth Service, Medway Youth Service and other voluntary youth organisations. KCVYS is a countywide body of 51 independent organisations and advocates on behalf of the Voluntary Youth Sector for consideration and inclusion in making policy decisions at local, county and regional level. KCVYS works closely with Kent Youth Service, Medway Youth Service and Connexions Kent & Medway Ltd. It is also increasingly involved with Children’s Trusts and Strategic Partnerships in both Kent and Medway. KCVYS is a member of the National Council for Voluntary Youth Services.
