SPEED RESTRICTORS
There does not appear to be a single clear document for the ‘layman’.
However there are 3 elements of consideration for the requirement or not of the fitting / commissioning of speed restrictors i.e. engine type, vehicle type and age.
Some modern minibuses have an electronic engine management system fitted and only need adjustment or a new chip installed.
As not all minibuses do need to legally comply with the E.U directive the best and only sound advice we give is to seek guidance from a main agent of the particular vehicle manufacturer.
In furtherance, of full implementation of the EU directive on 1st January 2008, the government intends to impose the same restrictions of 100 kph (62.5 mph) and non-use of the outer lane on 3 and 4 lane motorways for all minibuses (9-17 seaters) so that there is no advantage gained by the operation of older and ‘unrestricted’ vehicles. .
If additional and comprehensive information does materialise we will make it available at the earliest opportunity.
