SPEED RESTRICTORS

There does not appear to be a single clear document for the ‘layman’. 

However there are 3 elements of consideration for the requirement or not of the fitting / commissioning of speed restrictors i.e. engine type, vehicle type and age.

Some modern minibuses have an electronic engine management system fitted and only need adjustment or a new chip installed.

As not all minibuses do need to legally comply with the E.U directive the best and only sound advice we give is to seek guidance from a main agent of the particular vehicle manufacturer.

In furtherance, of full implementation of the EU directive on 1^st January 2008, the government intends to impose the same restrictions of 100 kph (62.5 mph) and non-use of the outer lane on 3 and 4 lane motorways for all minibuses (9-17 seaters) so that there is no advantage gained by the operation of older and ‘unrestricted’ vehicles. .
